THE GUNNISON/HINSDALE CONFIDENTIAL ADVOCACY CENTER provides confidential safety needs and direct advocacy services to individuals whose lives have been affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault. CATHOLICS COMING HOME: Reserve Thursday evenings this Summer for Fr. Barron's sessions on CATHOLICISM. It's designed to help one come to a clearer and deeper understanding of the Catholic Faith. It is a series of 12, two hour presentations on what Catholics believe and why. It is free as Queen of all Saints is underwriting the costs. AAUW SEEKS ARTISTS FOR ITS 39TH ANNUAL ART IN THE PARK EVENT: This year marks the 39th year of the American Association of University Women's sponsorship. The AAUW is seeking artists to exhibit their original creative works at this screened show on Sunday, July 28. Proceeds from the event help fund scholarships at Western State Colorado University and other AAUW sponsored education projects. THE GUNNISON RIVER FESTIVAL WILL INDEED INCLUDE AN OPEN WATER SWIM THIS YEAR! Mark your calendar for Sunday, 23 June, 8 a.m. It will be a one-mile, point-to-point at Blue Mesa. COMPETITIVE EVENTS AT HARTMAN ROCKS: Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 25-27. Many roads and trails at the Hartman Rocks area on BLM public lands and at the Base Area are being used for permitted mountain biking and trail running competitions. The Original Growler mountain bike race is Saturday and Sunday and The Sage Burner trail running race is Monday. All trails and roads are still open to the public, and all competitors, race directors and volunteers will be advised of this and that competitors do not have special priority over the public while participating in these events. Please use extra caution while recreating at the Hartman Rocks area on these days. These events are being produced jointly by the City of Gunnison, Western State College and Gunnison Trails and are fund-raisers for various projects and causes in the Gunnison Valley. THE KIWANIS CLUB OF GUNNISON SAYS THANK YOU to all of the sponsors, volunteers, and participants in our annual Blue Mesa Fishing Tournament. We could not have done this without you! We had 160 contestants and the winners were: Grand prize of $1200: Robby Richardson of Gunnison and Seth Firestone of Almont with 19.54 lbs. Canon Marines Grand prize of a new Yamaha outboard motor valued at $1,400 was Pat Strahl of Gunnison. The tournament was a great success and $4,700 was raised to be given to local students for college scholarships and to multiple other Gunnison area youth groups.
